50 BULGARIANS HAVE SUPPORTED THE MISSION OF TEACH FOR BULGARIA AT AN EVENT IN LONDON
Fifty Bulgarians living and working in Great Britain have taken part in a special event to support Teach for Bulgaria in London.
This meeting took place on January 24 with the generous support of our followers in the English capital – Mina Dimitrova and Sava Savov, the hosting provided by Google UK. During the event, the guests were able to learn more about Teach for Bulgaria’s mission: to grant equal access to education for each child in Bulgaria through the help of its team members. Panayot Panayotov, who has already completed the program (a 2013-2015 graduate), talked about the daily challenges in the classroom he has confronted and why he believes that education is key to changing society as a whole. A special guest of the event was Dame Julia Cliverden, a deputy Patron of Teach First (the partner organization in Britain of Teach for Bulgaria, part of the global network Teach for All). She welcomed the guests’ commitment to the activities of Teach for Bulgaria and shared inspiring stories of leaders in the British education system and other sectors who have completed the Teach First Program.
During the meeting, the guests became acquainted with the different ways in which they could provide active and long-term support to the mission and work of Teach for Bulgaria: by becoming inspiring teachers themselves to students in the country who are in need and by disseminating information about the organization’s activities in their social circles.
“When I try to think of someone I regard as a role model, I remember my primary school teacher who most of all made us believe that we can achieve success despite making mistakes. This feeling motivated me both in her classroom and outside it. I think that this is a major task of every teacher, and it is what distinguishes true role models from others“, shared one of the most active participants in the meeting.
At a special donation campaign related to the event, more than BGN 1000 were raised. The amount will cover the monthly remuneration of two program teachers. The campaign is still active, and everyone can participate by following this link. More options for financial support to the organization can be found here.
The positive attitude of all attendees and their strong commitment to the cause of Teach for Bulgaria has created an extremely important basis for subsequent partnerships and cooperation with the Bulgarian community in Great Britain. In the next couple of months, Teach for Bulgaria is planning to organize similar events in other cities in Europe and USA.
