Distance learning is challenging for all teachers. Seven Teach For Bulgaria alumni saw this as an opportunity to share their best practices for online teaching in order to exchange ideas, advice, and experience with other teachers. All best practices for online teaching are published on a special portal created by the Ministry of Education and Science.

The platform is an online catalog with over 10,500 free resources submitted by teachers from all over Bulgaria. The catalog gives teachers free access to online lessons, games, and software simulations. The ministry hopes that this will stimulate teachers to use and create more digital content.

Our alumni contribute to three of the five priority areas.

These are their practices:

Practices to increase student engagement and motivation

  • Engaging online class openers – Ivan Gospodinov, class of 2014-2016
  • Media literacy – a workshop on identifying fake news – Iliana Borisova, class of 2015-2017

Practices for engaging introduction of new material

  • Storytelling with Canva – Karina Azizyan, class of 2020-2022
  • Online ESL resources – Simon Zhelyazkov, class of 2016-2018
  • Bulgarian language and literature for 8th grade – Preslava Baycheva, class of 2012-2014
  • Project-based learning of mathematics and geography – Georgi Stoev, class of 2017-2019

Working with underperforming students

  • Skill-based individual and collaborative group work with primary school students – Vesela Dimitrova, class of 2015-2017

The ministry’s platform also features the educational website prepodavame.bg where teachers can find a wide range of best practices, resources, and ideas.
