FOREIGN SCHOOLS AND ORGANIZATIONS SHARE GOOD PRACTICES TO SUPPORT NEW TEACHERS

“Tutorship and Mentoring for Newly Appointed Teachers” International Conference will be held in Sofia on 3 July. During the forum, representatives of schools and educational organizations from five European countries will share successful practices to support trainee and newly recruited teachers.

The conference will be attended by Carmel College (Darlington, UK), EdEUcation LTD (Richmond, UK), EFA “La Malvesía” (Valencia, Spain), Center for School Progress (Vilnius, Lithuania), Pefkohori Lower-Secondary School and Teach for Bulgaria Foundation (Bulgaria). Participants will discuss innovative practices to improve teacher training, mentoring newly recruited teachers, and building the capacity of schools to provide opportunities for teachers’ professional development.

The event will be held on 3 July in the building of the Federation of Scientific Unions, 108 G. S. Rakovski Str., from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Each guest will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the conference. Registration is open at this address until 28 June.

The “Tutorship and Mentoring for Newly Appointed Teachers” Conference is implemented under the T2TT Project, funded under the Erasmus + Program. Its aim is to identify strategies, tools and resources to be used for training packages for easier transition from a junior teacher to a teacher. A model will be developed as a result of the project to be applied to all schools in the European Union.

The issue of the need to attract and retain new staff in the education system is a key one for Bulgaria, where the average age of teachers is 59 years and 15% of the teachers have reached retirement age. Moreover, the teaching profession is difficult and has its specificities that universities often do not prepare for.
