DO WE DEVELOP EFFECTIVE TEACHERS?

HOW DO STUDENTS EVALUATE OUR TEACHERS?

Student feedback is one indirect indicator of teacher efficacy in the classroom. At the end of each term, students fill in anonimized evaluation forms to assess the extent to which our teachers apply seven different groups of behaviors. A number of surveys indicate that these groups of competencies are in direct correlation with growth in student performance. More than 70% of our students assess positively these capabilities of our teachers.

HOW DO EXPERTS EVALUATE OUR TEACHERS?

A recent external survey demonstrated that, compared to the control group, the Teach For Bulgaria teachers are more inclined to employ active teaching models in class; to feel more confident vis-à-vis the use of computer technologies in teaching; to regard grades as a form of feedback from students that is subject to change. At the same time Teach For Bulgaria teachers are less likely to resort to the well-established teaching standard of lecturing while students listen and take notes.

The potential of Teach For Bulgaria teachers to create new teaching methods is perhaps one of the major reasons for the high approval rate of their work among principles. A survey conducted last year indicates that 98% of principals either “agreed” or “fully agreed” with the following statement: “The Teach For Bulgaria teacher actively contributes to the development of my school”.
