Over 150 Teachers Start the School Year with Teach For Bulgaria

The application process for new participants in our program “A New Way to Teaching” has already started
Over 150 participants in Teach For Bulgaria’s program “A New Way to Teaching” are going to start the school year. They will be teaching at 89 schools all over Bulgaria. 86 are the new motivated first-year teachers and 71 will be starting their second year at school. Teach For Bulgaria has found new partner schools in two new regions – Blagoevgrad and Ruse. This means that we are currently working with partner schools in 20 regions of Bulgaria.
The new participants in our program are professionals with diverse backgrounds who have gone through a rigorous selection process competing with over 3000 applicants. Some of them have pedagogical backgrounds, others are engineers, architects, economists, and recent graduates from Bulgarian, international, or prestigious universities abroad. The highest demand is for math, foreign languages, and primary school teachers.
The participants are also part of the Ministry of Education’s National program “Motivated Teachers”. Teach For Bulgaria has been executing two modules of the National program in collaboration with the Bulgarian Union of Teachers. The Ministry’s National program aims to recruit successful professionals with high potential, skills, and motivation: qualities which make them the best candidates for underperforming schools.
WE ARE OPEN FOR NEW APPLICATIONS
As per tradition, the start of the school year coincides with the launch of our recruitment campaign for new participants in “A New Way to Teaching”. This leadership and professional development program which works towards providing equal access to quality education to all students in Bulgaria has been providing training and support to new teachers for 11 years now.
Teaching certification is not a requirement for new applicants. Anyone who joins “A New Way to Teaching” without a previous pedagogical background is enrolled in a university qualification program and gets certified within 2 to 4 semesters, depending on the subject they will be teaching. However, “A New Way to Teaching” is very suitable for recent pedagogical graduates with no practical experience. The only requirement is that applicants have completed their bachelor’s degree or are expected to finish their studies by September 1, 2022. All applicants should also demonstrate an unwavering motivation to work with all students, regardless of their socio-economic background and societal limitations. Candidates should know that they will be expected to work as teachers full-time for a period of two years.
“Over the past two years we have noticed that more and more applicants with teaching credentials find our program attractive. These are usually people who haven’t practiced the profession for a while or recent graduates with no prior experience. One of the main advantages of the program for these candidates is the structured professional support that our experts provide during the initial two years of actual teaching, as well as the training sessions which are constantly being adapted and fine-tuned to the latest trends or requirements,” says Neli Kocheva, Head of Admissions at Teach For Bulgaria.
MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM
“A New Way to Teaching” is Teach For Bulgaria’s first program, launched back in 2011. All participants go through special training sessions, mentorship, teaching certification, placement at partner schools, opportunities for professional development, useful resources, and networking.
Teach For Bulgaria’s training program has been specially designed to focus on effective teaching which involves creating a student-centered classroom. All trainings are based on well-established models and are backed by the organization’s 11 years of experience. Our experts also focus extensively on online teaching techniques in order to meet the needs of current teachers during the pandemic.
RIGOROUS SELECTION
In order to join the program applicants have to go through a rigorous selection process. It consists of three rounds: online application, interview, and assessment center. This year, like previous years, all three rounds will be conducted entirely online in order to provide a safe environment for applicants and selectors.
REACH
Teach For Bulgaria has continued to expand its reach and our current participants can work at partner schools all over the country. During the 2021/2022 school year our teachers will be working in 20 regions of Bulgaria: Burgas, Blagoevgrad, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vratsa, Dobrich, Lovech, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pleven, Plovdiv, Razgrad, Ruse, Silistra, Sliven, Sofia-city, Sofia-province, Stara Zagora, Targovishte, and Shumen. School placement depends on the available positions and the professional background of our participants.
